Our love affair with llamas began in 1992 with the sale of Kathy's last dairy goat. The empty nest syndrome hit Terry who suggested llamas. Kathy looked at the local ranches but nothing intrigued her. Many inquiries later, she was handed a copy of "Llamas Magazine." There on the cover was what she wanted. Now we had a target. Our aim was to find show quality animals with pizzazz. This has been further refined to beautiful bodies, flashy colors and patterns, and lovely fiber.
Beyond that, we wanted them to be genetically superior for breeding and mothering skills. We did not want just another pretty face. Black Tie Llamas is to be synonymous with quality, service and satisfaction. Our relocation to Fort Jones, California afforded us 40 acres on which to carve a ranch conducive to raising llamas easily. Kathy is a former teacher and Reading Specialist, so the llamas are like having a group of eager first graders. The principles are the same--kindness, boundaries, and lots of praise. Terry was a financial consultant, so he keeps our feet on the ground. Also, he is great at raking up manure. Come visit us. We are at the Yreka exit off of I-5 on your way north to Oregon. Begin to experience the enchantment of these wonderful creatures. They will change the way you view the world. And--they will make you a better person for it.
